Dear Performance Band Students and Parents of 2019-2020:
The 2019-2020 school year will be an exciting new beginning. Mr. Martin will retire this May, at the end of the school years after a total of 39 years of teaching. Beginning in August Mr. Jordan Fansler will become the new Director of Bands at Richards High School. He is a recent graduate of the University of Illinois.
There will be a one-hour meeting on Tuesday, April 16 from 7 to 8pm in the Richards Band room. Mr. Fansler will be in attendance to talk about his vision for the Richards Band Program. I ask you to give up one hour in your busy schedule and attend this meeting. Students and parents are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting. There will light refreshments will be served.
Please park in the south parking lot (off 107th Street) and enter through door S8. The band room is just down the hallway on the right.
Please give strong consideration to attending this meeting and help Mr. Fansler get to know the music students and parents of Harold L. Richards High School.
I thank you for the wonderful support you have given me for the last 24 years and I am sure under Mr. Fansler the program will continue to grow and achieve new musical heights.

MURPHY SCHOLARSHIP 2019-2020
Attached is the application for the Murphy Scholarship for 2019-2020. This is a one of a kind scholarship. The recipient receives a year's worth of private lessons on their musical instrument or voice. Richards High School has had numerous recipients of this scholarship. You can click on the link below and scroll through the years and see for yourself how many Richards students have received a Murphy Scholarship.
I endorse this scholarship opportunity 100%. I only wish this scholarship had been around when I was young. The completed application is due April 30th. I have attached the application to this email and also will post it on the band website
I am more than happy to write a letter of reference for your student. This is my policy.You or your student needs to request by email for a letter of reference by April 15th. I will send a letter of reference directly to the scholarship committee by April 20th. All you have to do is fill out the application and send it in before the due date. Due date is April 30th
